J. Bouchon - Mingre Winery Lodge
Chilean Tradition Grafted on French Roots

Experience more than 100 years of Chile’s pre-eminent wine history with a stay at the Bouchon family hacienda “Santa Maria de Mingre Estate.” The estate was founded in 1892 when M. Julio Bouchon S., a French immigrant from Bordeaux, purchased 370 hectares (1000+ acres) in the Maule Valley, a region known for its unique soil and Mediterranean climate.

Visits to J. Bouchon are arranged exclusively through Santiago Adventures and are an intimate experience with the winery owners. During your stay you will be treated to the best of Chilean hospitality and explore the traditions of the Chilean "campo." A visit to their Mingre estate is like going back to colonial times to a real Chilean farm where traditions are still kept, Chilean "Huasos" (cowboys) are seen on horseback and nature surrounds you.

While our unique two day program makes for a great escape from Santiago, visits to J. Bouchon are usually combined with visits to the Colchagua Valley for a more in-depth exploration of Chilean wine country.

The Wine

Bouchon vines, with an average age of 60 years, produce wines deep in color and rich, fruity flavors. Reserve wines mature in French oak for 3-12 months. Consulting winemaker Patrick Valette has worked with J. Bouchon over the past several years creating internationally acclaimed wines.

J. Bouchon - Mingre Winery Lodge - Itinerary

Day 1 - Our tour begins with a 10:00 a.m. morning departure from your hotel in Santiago to arrive at the magical J. Bouchon Winery and Mingre Estate in the Maule Valley by 2:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, we will be met by our guide and third generation wine producer, Julio Bouchon. He and his family’s Chilean farm, where traditions are still kept, will transport us back to the colonial times. We will be treated to a special Chilean lunch and wine tasting under the trees or in the case of winter climate, in the dining hall of their hacienda.

Afternoon at the lodge - We will then tour their historic vineyards either on horseback or on foot while taking in the beautiful landscapes of the Maule Valley.

From there, we will receive an overview of vintage practices and update on 2009 harvest activities.

As you we will have had a full day, you will the have the option of a siesta before our special dinner or perhaps a soak in the uniquely-crafted Bouchon barrel hot tub, while taking in the evening breezes and tranquility of the vineyard.

J Bouchon Wine Barrel Hot Tub for 15

Evening at the lodge - Our dinner will include a traditional asado and continued tasting as we discuss unique food and wine pairings as well as the day’s activities.

From there, you will be treated to an unforgettable night’s sleep in the Mingre hacienda preparing for another exciting day of wine exploration.

Great idea for your old 45.000 liter wine barrels - a wood fired hot tub for 15 persons with vineyard views.

Day 2 - The following morning, you will awake to a leisurely breakfast that includes special foods from the farm, in the Bouchon dining room.

Depending on our day’s program we will either depart soon after, or enjoy a short hike around the grounds of the vineyard to stretch our legs before the next part of our exciting Santiago Adventure!
